Hi all,

Just a quick notification about the MP3 DAISY content from Bookshare just recently implemented. I have attempted to play this material on two devices, the VR Stream and the NLS DTBM. I downloaded Three Hands For Scorpio by Andre Norton. I also ordered one of the new books listed, I forget the title. It hasn't arrived yet.

Here are the results of my experiments.

First, when I placed the folder with the book files on a blank cartridge and placed it in the machine, it wouldn't play. I kept getting the repeated announcement of the first two words in the file, 'please respect'. I attempted to place the book in the $VRDTB folder of my card for the Stream, and I still got errors.

Following a prompt by Roger, I made an audio+podcasts folder on my new cartridge and was able to play the book just fine. I don't know what's going on here, but there's some incompatibility between the DAISY format that is recognized by both the Stream and the NLS DTBM and Bookshare content. I think, as a matter of fact, that what is happening is that the player is finding the MP3 files but not parsing the other parts of the DAISY book, so you don't get any navigation points or anything. This is not the way it should be. Perhaps Tech Support will have an answer for us tomorrow. Until then, if you have material from Bookshare in MP3,/DAISY put it in the audio+podcasts folder on the NLS player. It may play in the VROther Books part of the VR Stream, dunnow.
