Wave files are actually converted to MP3 files as part of the transfer
process. I can't imagine why 48,000 Hz wouldn't work, but I don't know
for sure. You are right; it must be 16-bit.

It will also play wave files, provided they are not sambled above
41000 hurts and that they are 16 bit and not 24 bit.
