Hmm, well, before you format your card, which would indeed cause you to lose all your data, you might want to first reset your computer. This might take care of whatever glitch is going on. You can do this by either removing the batteries and putting them back in again, or by pressing the keys 2 and B together. If you remove the batteries, you'll lose all the settings you've saved to your computer, such as date and time, Spanish availability, alarms, sleep timer settings. etc. If you press the 2 and B keys together, the device will be reset without your losing your settings.

If the reset doesn't take care of your problem, then you might want to see if you still have any files in your compact flashcard.

If you have a compact flashcard reader, you might want to take it out, put it in the reader, and see what your pc says as to whether or not there's data in it.

If you don't have a flashcard reader, what you could do is connect the bookport to your computer through the u.s.b. drive. But, instead of opening the bookport wizzard, what you want to do is check the bookport through my computer or windows explorer. Your pc wil identify the flashcard in your book port as "mass storage device e or f, (depending on how many drives you have on your machine.

If it recognizes the data you have in the device, then you might want to move the folders to your computer before reformatting the card.

Once the folders are moved, you can either format the card through my computer or windows explorer, or once you take bookport off the machine, press the keys
d, f, 1, and 3 simultaneously.

Now, what I'm not sure of here is if you want to move the folders back to your card once it has been reformatted, as there may be some corruption in the data. In that case you might be able to move some files back manually if they are in plain text format. If they're not, you might want to nix those folders altogether, create new ones, and copy the files you originally had in your computer into those new folders. Then you could move those folders back into your bookport through the send procedure in my computer and/or windows explorer.

To do that, you would have to:
1. Find the folder you want to send through my computer or windows explorer. 2. Press the context menu key, or press the shift and the f10 keys together, and press n for send.

3. Arrow down to where it says bookport and press enter.

4. The folder in question would be sent to the bookport, and the device would recognize it as a bookport transferred file.

And sorry for the long winded resolution, but figured you might want to have as much info as possible, just in case the reset doesn't work.

Marta

Subject: [bookport] error message

I am getting an odd error message. I had my bookport in my jacket pocket and it was loc ked. I tried to unlock it but when I did, I got the following message: FS can't initialize device, and the card says it is empty.
What do I do about this? Did I lose all of my data?
