Hi Everyone,
As far as I know, the bookport list was originally for
beta testers only to report beta problems. It was
also by invitation only, ie the moderator has to give
you permission to join. Some time in the past, the
subscription limit was removed and people could
subscribe freely.
However, the moderators of the list were primarily
looking for feedback on beta software, bugs and
technical support questions. Over time, people have
used the list for general discussion, comments about
NLS, deals on cards and accessories, etc.
So two needs have become apparent: the moderator,
dear Pamela, needs a list where she can monitor beta
bugs and tech support questions. Users need a list to
discuss other things that Pamela doesn't care about
such as Victor Stream vs bookport, deals on
accessories, things for sale, etc...
The bookport list is being used to supply both of
these needs, but at the cost of flooding Pamela's
mailbox with posts not related to beta testing and
tech support. She has experienced enough exasperation
to the point that she thought of shutting down the
bookport list. Thankfully, she did not, but she has
been forced several times to put her foot down when
topics go out of hand.
The goal of the bookport_users list is to create an
open forum for bookport community which will hopefully
fulfill the users' needs and lessen the amount of
posts that Pamela has to wade through. The idea is to
give a place for users to share ideas, give each other
support, comments about NLS, Victor Stream, etc or
simply chat. Yes, you can talk about the Stream in
the users' list.
Of course, it will only work if people are subscribed
to the list and that people don't CC the original
bookport list.
I hope this clears up the intent of bookport_users
list.
