Hi Rick:

This error is usually caused by one of the following things:

1. The root directory of the compact flash card has too many files on it or is
corrupt.
2. The firmware was downloaded when the batteries were low.

You can remedy this by doing the following:

Make sure the batteries in the Book Port are fresh. Then, follow these
instructions:

1. Try plugging in the Book Port to the PC, wait about 10 seconds and
disconnect the plug from the Book Port. Be sure to listen with the headphones
or speakers to see if it talks and updates. If it does, it'll take about a
minute or so to update. If it doesn't update, go onto the next step.

2. Download the file:

www.aph.org/tech/bpx_setup.exe

Connect the Book Port and run the file you downloaded.

3. The computer will prompt you when to disconnect. Once you disconnect, do
not press any keys or re-connect to the PC, until the update has finished.

If you have any problems doing any of this, or if you have any questions,
please let me know via email or by phone and I'll be happy to assist you
further.

Sincerely,

Subject: [bookport] Missing Application Message

I received a Book Port from a user that was no longer making use of the reader.
I installed the software on my computer and let it update to the newest
version of the software. I was able to authorize the player and move a book
from Audible to the memory card. The issue I am having, is when I push a
button on the Book Port, I just receive the message "application missing". I
read through the manual twice, but see no reference to this issue. If anyone
has a fix, I will be very appreciative.

Rick
