The NLS digital audio book program is still in beta. It can be difficult to commit to something until one fully assesses the technology as it is shipped as compared to specified theoretically in a document.
When Web Braille and RFB&D books are considered together, these two formats will have more books available for use at the time NLS launches its digital talking book program and will still have the lead a year or so afterward into the future.

While I understand your wish to have the NLS content; I hope you realize that the Stream does not support anywhere near the number of different file formats that the current Book Port supports. Oh yes, Humanware is promising to fix that. But they have been promising that the Maestro, which is what the Bictor Stream is based on, would be able to read Braille files soon, but it still cannot read *.brl or *.brf. So, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high based on sales hype. I'd wait and see how things come along for awhile before you jump to another unit that doesn't support nearly as many formats. It amazes me that Stream doesn't support *.brl, *.brf, *.doc (MS Word), Audible, or RFB&D. The current Book Port supports all of those formats and has for quite awhile.----- Original Message ----- From: "albert griffith" <albertgriffith@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 11:15 AMSubject: [bookport] Re: FW: [nabs-l] Downloading Digital Talking Booksfrom NLSWhile I think this is great news, the folks at APH. have known when the NLS.catalog was to become available to us. It seems they'd have made accessibility to it a priority. I've just arranged to sell my unit andpurchased a Victor Reader Stream because I wanted to have access to the NLS. books. It's funny how things turn around. A few years ago I was activelypromoting the Book Port because they were in tune with our needs as consumers and their competitor wasn't. -----Original Message-----From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of lana Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 9:09 AM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxxSubject: [bookport] Re: FW: [nabs-l] Downloading Digital Talking BooksfromNLSAre you talking about the current Book Port, Now that's exciting, and yes, I know not to get my hopes up or consider anyone bound to that timeline, oreven to the certainty that it will happen.
