K1000 can do better than that if you use bookmarks to mark the verious sections
of the book, and then tell K1000 to use bookmarks when you ask it to create the
Daisy file. This assumes that you are using K1000 version 11.

: Hi Rick.
:
: Unfortunately the K-1000 doesn't create any navigation features in it's
: DAISY export. It is just a long series of paragraphs. Sending it
: directly as text is just as good.
:
: Also, the ".xml" file that is generated by K-1000 is the text content
: file for daisy and isn't the same as the package ".opf" file so changing
: the extension won't work.
:
: Sorry I don't have better news, but K-1000's DAISY export really isn't
: as good as one might think.
:
: Regards,
: Keith

: Pamela, or others,
:
: I am having a challenge, for which the great collective knowledge base
: on
: the group may have a quick tip.
:
: I am a new user to the K-1000 program. The wish to transfer the manual
: to
: my Book Port. It is in .kes format. It already has bookmarks to
: navigate.
: I'm told I can just send it to the book port in daisy format. I have
: done
: this a couple times now, but each time it is the same result.
:
: I have tried it 2 ways. First, saving the file in Daisy file, making
: it to
: have an .opf extension. And then use the Book Port Transfer to send it
: to a
: folder on the Book port. The result doing this is that book port
: transfer
: pops up a dialog that says "unable to open navigation points" and an
: Okay
: button. The file does not transfer. My Book Port Transfer software is
: the
: latest version.
:
: The other way I tried is to send the file within K-1000, using the Send
: To
: feature. This gets the file onto the book port, and you can even
: designate
: the format and the folder where you want to place it. Thing is,
: though, the
: navigation is not all there, only the page by page level, and you can
: only
: use the 7 and 9 keys on the Book Port. And the filename is a .KES
: format
: even though I did say Daisy within the send to dialog boxes.
:
: Okay. That is my description. Sorry to be so long winded. Any ideas?
: I can and have been reading it on my bookport and creating my own book
: marks, but I just thought I'd like to try and have the daisy file to
: read.
:
: Thanks.

:
: While I can't give you the programmer's explanation, this sort makes
: sense for several reasons: 1. In the case of the Daisy books that come
: from RFB&D, the CD has to be in place. 2. In the case of Book Share
: or
: other Daisy files, the way that it works is that even though you're
: only
: transferring the one "OPF" file, it looks ta t the other files in the
: Daisy book to get the information. Besides, you wouldn't want to tie
: up
: your hard drive or Temporary file with all of that, as Daisy files can
: be quite large. So, while I can't explain it all technically, I can
: tell you that this makes sense that it is this way.

: My husband tried to put a daisy book on the book port, and got the
: message "daisy talking books cannot be cued." He has put daisy
: formatted books on there before. What's the reason for this message
: and
: not being able to transfer some daisy books and not others?
