There are probably things that influence the range but I haven't benn able to determine what they are. I have steel studs with the normal drywall in my house and it doesn't seem to have any effect. The exterior walls are concrete block and the range is still in excess of 25 feet when I am outside without a window near the line between the device and the headset.

Hi Sandy and list:

The range of two similar bluetooth devices should not differ greatly because of the requirements of meeting the Bluetooth specification. But that isn't to say that the range won't vary as Gary mentioned, according to the presence of metallic obstructions.

Cheers,
Dave

The two different brands probably work... well... differently. The range might not be the same, among other things.

You keep saying that, but it's not always true. The simple fact is that I
can totally kill the signal to my Bluetooth headphones in less than 10 feet
and do so consistently. This has nothing whatever to do with the level of
charge on the batteries.

Bluetooth uses the the same frequency band as the newer cordless phones, so
it is an RF signal and therefore capable of passing through walls just as
cordless phones do. It has a shorter range and ies less subject to
interference and is more secure when this is necessary. As long as you use it within the 30 foot or so range it will work anywhere in the house with a
clear signal, at least this has been my experience. I use it, ay various
times, with the Bookport, a laptop and desktop, and the NLS tape machine, This allows me to move about the house even when using the computer as long
as I am reading longer documents and newsletters.
