My HP notebook is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000 Plus with the NVIDIA 
chipset; this system has three USB 2.0 ports, and I have moved to using the 
one port on the right side of the system to attach the BC because I get 
better performance than hooking it to my Sprinters USB 2.0 hub.  You're most 
likely right on the fact that your problem, and others who have had similar 
problems, in that the particular combination of hardware/software components 
is the culprit here.  I've had strange issues with other devices, not just 
the BC, on various systems because of this.
