Jennifer Strange, sixteen years of age, is acting manager of Kazam
Enterprises, a firm that provides sorcerors to assist in almost any
enterprise one might consider. Her boss, the Amazing Santini, has gone
missing, victim of someone's spell that has him bouncing around the
ether, appearing for a few moments at a time here and there before
disappearing once more.
Magic had begun to unexpectedly fade, leaving only enough residuals to
allow yoyos, bicycles, and compasses to work properly. Now it's
equally unexpectedly begun to return, and now that there's nearly
enough Crackle to do useful things with, Kazam's practitioners are set
to restore the Hereford Bridge on Friday. But King Snodd and Blix the
Astounding, who wants to retitle himself Blix the All-Powerful, hope to
corner the market on magic so as to milk the kingdom dry. Can Jennifer
defy the both of them and see to it that the contest Blix has
engineered is won by Kazam?
A fun story with all of Fforde's usual tongue-in-cheek style and humor.
Got it from Audible, and read it the other day on the way to Oregon,
reading _The Empty Copper Sky_ on the way back. And Jasicki was
delightful as narrator. Definitely one when you want something light
to laugh about. I have the feeling this may be book two of a series,
so I'll be checking with Audible to see if there indeed is a prequel to
it, not to mention any sequels.
