For one, if your friend is running the 3.x version of eudora, there is a
free update availble to Eudora 3.0.6 light.
Is your friend having problems both downloading and sending or only
sending mail? If she can download but not send mail, her ISP might require
smtp authentication, which is not supported in versions of Eudora before
4.32.
Have you been able to connect to the mail account using Outlook Express?
Jaws comes with scripts for Eudora that give adequate support for the
later versions of Eudora and work even with the latest beta of Eudora 7.0.
