Best way to go about this is to email the band or their manager directly. Tell them that you want to play them on a podcast and ultimately get their permission. This works great over at garage band.com, and other music sites. Lots of folks have been able to convince bands to allow them to play a tune or too. I'm sure it will work.

Subject: Question About Podsafe Music

Hi!
Was wondering if anyone knows of a way to determine if a music group is
considered podsafe or not. There's a Canadian band that I want to put
onto my podcast, but am not sure if it's podsafe music. Think it is,
but wondered if there's a way to be sure.
For those who haven't seen the podcast yet, go to
