Hi Jay,

You may want to consider getting one of those Tascam USB connected
multi-input interfaces you can read about easily on Amazon.com/access

I have never used one myself, but you will learn a great deal by reading the
user reviews in terms of recording instruments into a PC and processed by
one of the several software packages as mentioned by others earlier.

Tascam also makes several devices that allow you to plug in an instrument
either directly or via microphone and playing sound along with it via either
digital audio files or CD. I believe these are practice devices founded on
the principle of Karaoke. They may permit you to record off the device the
mixed instrument laid onto the audio track.

If you want to go beyond these simple solutions, you will no doubt face a
steep learning curve and several hundred dollars in at least 2 or 3
different devices to accomplish multi-channel mixing and recording onto a
PC.

Many musicians simply purchase a decent stand alone CD recorder, such as the
Tascam CDRW-900SL and hook up a mixing board to it and live record their
sound downmixed into stereo after tweaking the mixer for optimal levels and
so forth. This method has the virtue of avoiding having to use a PC and
learning software operation.

Regards,
Diego

Hi all,

I want to record from a microphone to my PC with decent - high quality
sound. I understand I may need a new sound card or something with audio
input (auxiliary or something like that?).

It may be easier to explain, I want to record saxaphone (and other
instruments) with my PC, pull them into Audacity and mix/lay them over
tracks from other artists I am collaborating with.

I'm really new to this, so any suggestions - including other software for
this stuff are welcomed.

Kind regards,
J.
