It is my understanding that it merely replaces the earlier version. You
shouldn't need to uninstall prior version before updating unless you run
into a specific problem. sometimes when troubleshooting people will do a
clean uninstall and reinstall but generally speaking the program will just
update over itself without you needing to intervene.

Okay, here's another embarrassing question, but it's something I've
