Well, I absolutely cannot understand what Samantha is saying. I can barely
understand her when she reads some of the Bookshare titles. And although I
can read most fiction with daisy audio, I couldn't follow A Moment In The
Sun at all until it appeared on BARD read by Barry Bernson. It just moves
from one person and place to another too quickly and with tts, there's no
break, and Kendra, or whoever she is, just couldn't differentiate enough for
me to know what was going on. It's a very long, 35 hour book, and very good
, so I'm glad BARD did it.

Actually, those very long Bookshare books do play on the Stream, but you
have to put up with the native Samantha voice. I've also noticed another
problem with them. On one of the very long books after you have progressed
to a certain point in them it is a good idea to not press the
5 key to check your progress. It will shut off without the double beep that
usually signals its turning off and when you get it back on it will have
reverted to the point where you started listening to it in the last
listening session. That means that when you are checking on your place in
the book you will lose your place. To prevent that from happening on one of
those very long Bookshare books you need to turn off the machine and then
turn it back on before pressing the 5 key. Right now I am reading an Open
Library book entitled Great Books of the Western World by Mortimer J. Adler.
It has 1346 pages and there is a lot packed on each page. To save myself the
trouble I am not checking my place until I start listening to it again. That
is because if I turn it off and turn it back on I will have to wait through
twenty-two statements of please wait before I can press the 5 key. By the
way, I have been reading that book for well over a month now and I am only
about forty-one percent through with it. That is definitely a long book.

I had a bookshare book that was so large, it gave the first generation
stream fits.so I put it on a cartridge to listen to on the DTBM. It
still takes a while to fire up, but at least it works.

If you download the daisy audio version of the Bookshare book, and
you
know how to open the zip file and transfer the book to a cartridge,
you can
hear the book on the NLS player. I use the humanware companion
software to
transfer the book to the cartridge. You can buy blank cartridges and
the
thing that attaches them to your computer from various places like A
P H.

Hi
I have no idea how you would listen to Book Share books on the
Talking
book player. I love that I can just stick the Stream in my pocket
and head
out.
