Hi Rod,
I think I read somewhere that one of the totally beginner exercises is to
have a friend call out algebraic square names and you have to tell them as
quickly as you can what color the squares are.

I'll keep a look-out for visualization exercises, though I don't know 
offhand. I think I did see something somewhere... it's on my list "to do".
