Hi gang,
In response to your question about the wish list books, yes, one of these days
(probably in a month or two), we will start buying and processing the wish list
books. There are several types of books that we will leave on the wish list,
since the grant does not cover them.
One type of book we will ignore are the romance, erotica, and adult content
books. The grant is for educational books, and most romances aren't
educational, at least not in the sense that government means :-).
The other type of book we will ignore are BSO books. The grant says we must put
100,000 NEW books, which excludes replacements. That being said, I assume most
people know that in the past 4-6 months, we have instituted a new way of
handling book quality issues, so we are addressing the problem of quality, but
we're not using grant money to do so.
My recommendation to everyone is to spend a week or two thinking about books
that you would like to see in the collection, formulate a list, check the books
on your list against the collection, the books in the checkout queue, the books
being processed, and Cindy's being scanned list, and then send the
non-duplicated titles to Cindy. (Please don't everyone do this tonight. If she
gets inundated by wish list requests, she'll shoot me.)

Cindy lives 400 miles away from me, and she's not a violent person. I was

Elizabeth, you're asking some great questions. I don't know if Amy knows
about the wish list of books. It certainly would give Amy some ideas about
what our readers are already requesting. There are tons of educational books
being requested on there. I'm going to CC this to Pavi and ask her to pass
this idea along to Amy. I think that's the right channel for presenting the
idea. If not, maybe she'll let us know what to do in the future. For anyone

and has been doing so for the past 18 months or so. She updates it regularly
when someone posts a request.
