I know pretty much nothing about open book other than I have heard complaints like that before. I think that what is happening is that Open Book is leaving some of its formatting junk in the file when it is converted, which is really unacceptable. I don't know what rquote could be, but the backslash par sounds like something marking paragraphs. I would try saving your file in DOC format as the last step when you are finished editing it. Then try to open that in Word or Wordpad and see if you have the same junk. If you don't you can just save to RTF in Word or wordpad and the junk character problem will be solved. You can hope that no new problems appear do to the added conversion step. I would certainly contact Freedom Scientific about your problem, though. Companies need to know about it when their products miss behave, especially when it's something as stupid as your problem. I went ahead and tried saving the file as an rtf file under a different name, but the results were still the same. I'm still seeing the rquote and \par nonsense. Is there another route I could utilize to get the file finished, i.e. could I save it from openbook as a MS Word doc, and then as an rtf file? The previous six books I scanned and subsequently validated never had this problem. I fear I may be forced to just simply embark on a major cleaning expedition. ----- Original Message ----- From: Natasha & Fossey To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 03, 2004 1:31 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: strange occurrence with rtf file Scott, What version of Open book are you running? I have this same problem occasionally with Open Book 5.0 as well. What I do to fix it is close all of open book, re open it, go into the ark file again and save under a completely different file name as an RTF. A pain, but it usually works.
