Hi Lissi,
I'm sorry to have to be disappointing, but right now there's really no way to 
create strings of spaces and have Bookshare keep them. The automated tools used 
by Bookshare are not calibrated ideally for poetry or other kinds of unusual 
formatting. The only thing that can really be preserved in terms of poetry 
formatting is the original line endings--there's no way to preserve atypical 
spacing or indents etc. It won't matter for people using speech to read it 
with, but of course it will affect braille readers and anyone reading off their 
screen. Sorry for the bad news,
