Dear Booksharian Friends,

Run together words appear most often in books I proof in italicized passages. This depends on the font used in the print copy. Ellen, if the run together words aren't a part of a dialect or style statement, especially since they appear in different places in the Amazon peak and your scan, I think it's a sure guess that the problem is with the font. If we could see the print, we'd probably see words printed closely together, so crowded that the spaces are a tough call for your OCR.

So far, I've only seen a few instances where words were meant to be run together, usually in emotional passages like, ohmygosh, stopstopstopstop!, or, in the McBroom books, all of McBroom's dozen or so children's names are run together, every time they are used throughout the series, as a humorous element. I've also seen words intentionally written without spaces when they are part of a word puzzle or clue, as in children's mystery stories.

So, without seeing the book my call is to separate. Good luck!

Always with love,

Lissi

Hi Ellen!

I have occasionally had words run together while scanning, but it's very rare. I don't like it when the spacing in words varies much in books. It seems a little harder to read with an optacon.

Hi group,

I'm scanning the book Stealing Lumby by Gail Fraser and just want to complain about something. The book seems to be missing some spaces between words, especially between the word of and the capital letter of a name. Argh! I just checked Google books, and that is how it is printed sometimes. I'm going to keep scanning, but it's just frustrating.

Thanks for letting me whine,
Ellen
