The hard returns at the end of each line haven't been removed. The book itself is fine, and I know how to make it so that I can delete a single hard return instead of a paragraph. But to do that, I need the "format marker" symbol to be gone.

If you are editing on your braillenote you need to know where the
linebreaks are so you can add any which are needed or delete
extraneous ones. What reason might you therefore have for not 
showing them?
