--I do think bookshare policy is to leave in page numbers and to put them in if they're missing. I've found a couple of non-children's books that didn't have page numbers in the actual books, and I've either put that in the long synopsis or put in the pages in brackets --( I'm omitting brackets henceforth, however, because I've been given to undersstand that they're annoying to whose who listen to books and I realizedthat they really aren't necessary.) They weren't textbooks, though. Maybe the validator should reject books, especially textbooks, that don't have page numbers, or release them and post that a sighted person who can compare the file with the actual book, and who is willing, should validate the book so he/she can put in the page numbers. If the book stays up for a long time without being validated, maybe someone will reject it. I agree that scanner should be more careful. The minimum a scanner should do, it has been said here time and time again, is to make sure all the pages are present and numbered, that page breaks are present, and that the copyright info is intact and accurate.
