Thanks everyone for the great feedback.  Carrie got back to me tonight and 
confirmed we can combine in a case like this to improve the readability.  And 
really, in this book, the author used two pages as one with blurbs anywhere 
around pictures and across pages.  I am sure preteens will find it a great way 
to learn about an ancient civilization.
