Hi Scott!

I wrote this message on Sunday evening, I think it was when my ISP was doing some maintenance preventing me from checking my mail, then I forgot to send my brainstorm of what could be included in the Bookshare glossary.

I was also keeping track of the suggestions the the other posts.

You mentioned in a lter post that you would like people to define these terms. I know that at least one volunteer said she'd supply the definitions for the terms she knew. If there are any that haven't been defined yet, I could take a stab at them.

Here's my version of glossary terms with the other comments below.

Carrie Carnos added:

Hi Kim,
Many years ago, the volunteers identified themselves as "deranged perfectionists" which I thought was apropos.

Evan is a Deranged Perfectionist.

Sue is nitpicky.

Maureen was wondering:

Hi
Being so new to this whole bookshare thing I found a couple of words I don't know definitions for, what is the book score? And what is wiki? System Access could be included or serotech. Or, for that matter windoweyes.
Maureen

Sorry I'm so late in getting this to you.

Bookshare Volunteers,

This week it occurred to us just how differently we sometimes use words here at Bookshare.

We certainly have our own set of abbreviations and acronyms. What other online community can hold such erudite discussions of ellipses, scanner settings, or British punctuation for so long? Where else can you cause such turmoil if you confuse "submit" with "check-in"?

As we brainstormed what sort of orientation and training material to create for new volunteers we found that we had generated a word list that could be the start of a glossary. Read through the list below. If you think of other words, acronyms, or concepts that we might be helpful for new volunteers gather them up and email them to me or - if you want to hold the discussion online - post them to the list for others to add to.

Enjoy the long weekend.
