Hi Shelley, I answered your previous question about this, but maybe my message didn't get through. You had all of the right settings. Most important is to keep line endings in the reading settings dialogue. Partial columns kept, and perhaps enable column recognition, if the book is set up that way. Other than that, the rest is pretty much up to the proofreader, and ideally, the proofreader should have a copy of the book to check that Kurzweil didn't get confused about where to end lines, which it sometimes does. If you are editing the book, you want to insert an asterisk on the line preceding each stanza, so that the reader knows that there was a blank line there, since Bookshare's conversion tool will remove the blank lines. However, and I can't remember how this is done, K1000 often inserts a blank line where there shouldn't be one in poetry. You can tell when this has happened, but I can't remember how. It's been too long since I processed a book of poetry scanned with Kurzweil. Happy scanning, and I hope that helps some. Are there references or places I could go to learn how to scan poetry so that it will be kind of readable and enjoyable by Bookshare. I have a book of poems from one of my former students, she will be 93 this year, and a very talented and classy lady, smile, and I want to make sure that it gets into the collection in the shape she would want it to be in. What am I supposed to tell Kurzweil to make the scanning of the poetry easier. Thanks. Shelley L.
