I used to use Simple OCR when I very first started scanning in 2006. It's ok
if you're sighted and can constantly compare the print to the scan.
I might also have used what comes with Microsoft Word but I can't remember.
I never scan an entire book and then OCR the whole thing. Now I have 2 g
memory but when I once tried this on my laptop with 1 g memory it totally
crashed and I lost the whole scan. Even 50 pages crashes my computer. I scan
10 to 20 pages at a time, OCR that, then paste it into Word.
