Ann, It still sounds gross to me, eating with your hand. I mean, something
soft would be a real problem I should think. That would take some getting
used to. (smile)

Hi all,

Yes, Carrie, it is sure different. What struck me was the dicotomy
between ancient and modern. things like having computers in the
basement of a building and washing clothes by hand on the roof. Or
seeing cows on a city street next to a bus. Yes, there is a lot of
poverty, and much suffering there, but there is beauty and music and
warm, loving people.

Family is indeed important. There is no such thing as the separate
family units. It's all one. We can learn a lot from just that one
aspect of the culture.

One thing I admired was the way Indians eat with their hand. Many do
not use forks at all, but it is not messy and it is not gross, as you
might think. I learned how to do it. Man, did I love it, because for
the first time in my life, I had complete control over my food! My
friend Pat said that she couldn't get over seeing businessmen in a
restaurant in western suits eating with their hand.
