Wow, that is great news that we no longer have to worry about those
em-dashes!!! Definitely worthy of a dance! And I will post here if I find
that the hotkeys don’t work in Word 2010. I think I’m ready to try an actual
book now.

Hi Sue,
Word automatically inserts em dashes when you type two hyphens, unless you
change some autoformatting. But do the happy dance. Bookshare's tools now
(I've checked this thoroughly) can make those em dashes into two hyphens for us
so that the braille readers won't be given improper braille. So, don't worry
when you see em dashes. They are no longer a problem that we need to solve!
If they are surrounded by spaces, please eliminate the spaces so that braille
code will be followed accurately.
And if I'm wrong about the hot keys not working, please tell us here. I use
Word 2003, so only know what I've been told, and that is that all of the hot
keys still work in Word 2007 and 2010.

No, I didn’t know the old keystroke commands would work. You are so right—that
will save a lot of time. I am noticing something here. When I just typed a
dash, or double hyphen, it showed up asa M dash. Not wanting to start a thread
on that old thing again, just an observation.. (smile)

Hi Sue,
I'm sure you already figured this out, but in case not, you can use all of the
quick key commands that you used to use in stead of using the ribbon, like
control+c to copy and control+v to paste. So anything that you remember how to
accomplish without using the ribbon will save you time.
I admire your fortitude. I'm dreading the day when I have to take the plunge
beyond Office 2003. I hope I'll be as willing and cheerful about it as you
are.

Thanks, Mayrie! I am so pleased that it will open documents and files,
contrary to my older version of Word and Kurzweil. The files readily open, so
that is a good start. I can also again read doc files! One sees so many doc
files these days.

Hi list,
I have installed Office 2010 and am practicing on the proofreading book that
Rick Costa developed. I am doing this rather than downloading actual books and
then having to release them if I am unsuccessful. Word is opening the RTF
file, but I have a lot to learn about Word 2010 before I tackle actually
proofreading a book. I do feel a sense of accomplishment at having
successfully installed it.
