[bksvol-discuss] K1000 vs. OpenBook

I think there are some die-hard fans of both products, I suppose. For those
of us who use K1000, we swear by it. There have been those who've switched
from OpenBook to K1000 and they swear by it, too, but if OpenBook serves you
well and you get satisfactory submissions, stick with it. That's what I'd
do, anyway. Take care.

OK, at the risk of sounding naive, what's the difference. I'm scanning a
paperback with OpenBook right now, and it's giving me a very clean scan, one
that I'd definitely consider excellent. And trust me, I'm picky; I won't
download anything that's less than excellent from Bookshare.

What would K1000 offer me that I can't get with Openbook? I've seen
references to ranked spelling, which seems to be the biggest difference, but
I'm not certain what it'd do for me. And if I'm having problems editing in
Openbook, I just export to word, and use Word's features.

I'm not likely to go buy K1000 right now ... a Pacmate is in the works in
the next few weeks, and that'll destroy any technology budget for quite some
time to come ... but I'd like to know what I'm missing.
