Strikes me as a interesting suggestion, Cindy. I'll talk to the team
more about it on Tuesday, when I'm back from the DAISY tech conference.

Subject: Bookshare changes and quality rating

I'm breathless. It sounds wonderful!!

Jim, I would like a little more explanation that part
of number five that involves setting "the default to
view Excellent or better content..." I assume that
means that when members sign up they can choose what
level of quality books they want access to and that
Excellent or better will be the default? There will be
a way to choose books with a lesser rating, as there
is now to choose whether or not one wants access to
Adult books?

May I suggest that a default rating for submitted
scans be totally eliminated? As it is now, I believe
the default is fair, and many submitters, and indeed
some validators, don't notice that and/or don't change
it. This some Excellent books get into the collection,
or on the step one page, rated Fair. When on the step
one page, they're not as quickly validated because
people stay away from them. If the quality rating was
something that scanners and validators had to fill in
themselves, and without it the file couldn't be
submitted, books would be rated more accurately, I
believe.

Cindy
