Lisa; Depending on what material is on the preliminary pages, don't number (at least this is what I was told.) For example, in a book I am working for Debbie F. there is material like the front flap, inside front flap, back flap, etc. that is before the first roman numbered page and I was told not to number those pages (which I didn't). If this material is the same that is in your book, I would suggest not numbering the pages. But if this is not the case, then number the pages with lower case and then other pages with capital roman numbers, maybe? Hopefully, I didn't throw you into too much confusion.
