Yes, this does happen sometimes; that's why I always have the print copy on
hand when validating.

It's true. The problem is that, even when reading the book, I can't tell what
the garbled text is supposed to say.

This issue is one more example of why reading the book is the only truly
satisfactory solution.

I seem to be doomed this evening to telling people that there is little
or nothing they can do. <smile>

Are you referring to the headings at the top of each page, or the chapter
titles at the beginning of each chapter. I don't suppose it matters, really.
What I say here applies to both.

Unfortunately, there is no magic setting that will assure that chapter
headings will be recognized well. It can vary a lot from one book to another.
The chapter titles or headings are often in a different font style or contrast
to the rest of the print. Optimizing the settings to do the best possible job
on the text in the book can sometimes make it less likely that you will get a
good scan of the headings or titles. Some books do better than others because
the font type, size or contrast of the titles is enough like the rest of the
text that it comes out okay with the same settings. If the headings are
sufficiently different, though, as I have seen on some occasions, then they
will come out garbled. Sometimes, it doesn't matter what settings you use. They
just don't come out well no matter what.

Others may have better help, but that has been my experience.

      Evan

        Hi, all.

I'm using kurzweil 1000 version 11.02. I have noticed that chapter
headings aren't always scanned in. I'm wondering if there is a setting I can
use to ensure that this happens.

Sometimes, they seem to scan fine, but, other times, not so much. So,
I'm quite confused. I would appreciate any suggestions you might be able to
offer.
