01/24/2013 I t is approximately a mile from where the Little River and the Big Muddy merge to the point at which the bay makes a 90 degree curve to the left. In other words from my vantage point along shore drive all of this area is visible. This afternoon there were no pelicans in this stretch of the bay.The water level has held fairly constant assuring plenty of mud flats. The bay has not iced over even though the temperature has average around 32 degrees for the last few days. These birds are big and have a huge appetite so I am going to venture the thought that they have consumed most of the food there. Any one wish to suggest an alternative reason why they might clear out. Those with eyes on the lakes be alert to flocks and possibly a new roosting and feeding area, please.
