An error in the latest issue of The Kestrel, newsletter of
the KOS, has probably already been brought to the
attention of the membership, but, if so, it probably
bears repeating, and if not, it needs to be stated.
The lead note in the newsletter correctly states
that the 45th Supplement to the AOU split the
Cackling Goose from the Canada Goose, but
the genus given for the two resulting species
is Anser, when, in fact, the genus is Branta,
as a quick look at the 45th Supplement will
reveal, as will a quick look at the current
version of the AOU Checklist:
