On several occasions I have observed hummingbirds picking gnats out of spider
webs, but never saw them gnatting. Very cool!

While we ate our dinner, last evening, we watched a hummingbird flitting back
and forth, apparently snatching gnats from the air, near one of our feeders.
It is doing it again, right now, and is fascinating to watch! We had seen

Also, last weekend, as I sat under the paper birch trees in the front yard, I
could hear several hummingbirds humming quietly from among the branches,
above. It was almost constant, and for an extended time. I was puzzled by
it, but I am wondering, now, if they were feeding on the aphids that plague
those trees at this time of year? It seems an aphid might be a bite sized
meal for hummingbird. Has anyone else observed his behavior?
