I was standing in the west lawn, about five minutes before sunset, this
afternoon, enjoying the lovely weather, when two Bluebirds flew overhead and
landed high in one of the post oak trees, near the house. I watched them
loafing near an old Robin’s nest, left over from this summer. After a bit, one
of them flew away. I didn’t see the other one go, but I couldn’t see it
either. I worked my way around the tree, thinking it was perched behind the
nest, but still couldn’t pick it out. About that time I saw movement at the
nest rim. I focused on it and realized that I was seeing the top of a
Bluebird’s head and it’s upturned bill. I watched it until sunset and it
appeared to be cozy and settled in for the night. Photo link follows.I’ve
often wondered where birds spend their nights. I pictured them deep in a cedar
tree or bush. It never occurred to me that Bluebirds would use a Robin’s nest.
That’s a new one for me.https://flic.kr/p/PdxcFHStephen Tyson, Schochoh, Logan ;
