Late this afternoon I encountered a lone Whimbrel at McElroy Lake. I heard the
distress call of some Least Sandpiper and turned around to see the Whimbrel and
sandpipers chased briefly by a Cooper's Hawk. All the birds returned safely to
the ground.

If you travel to McElroy, please do not park on the gravel road on the south
side. The owner is actively planting corn, and large machinery is using the
road. Be courteous.
