Regular checks of the remaining shorebird spots in southern Warren County had turned up no migrant shorebirds until yesterday, July 19, when Least Sandpipers were present at Meng's and Petros Ponds. Today, July 20, I joined Nicole Ranalli in conducting a shorebird survey on the Peabody WMAs with the following birds of interest present: Paradise Ash Basin Least Sandpiper 2 Black-crowned Night-Heron 1 juv Great Egret 2 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Homestead Unit Pectoral Sandpiper 17 Least Sandpiper 6 Solitary Sandpiper 5-6 Great Egret Ring-necked Duck male in molt Henslow's Sparrows were very conspicuous in song at many stops, but Bell's Vireos were heard at only a few. Willow Flycatchers were recorded at 2 stops. A single female Northern Harrier was observed on the Sinclair Unit. A family of Sharp-shinned Hawks with begging juvs was present on the Homestead Unit where I had observed adults earlier in the summer. dave __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
