Hap Chambers and I had an Upland Sandpiper this morning at Open Pond in
Fulton County. We flushed the bird and saw and heard it in flight. It
flew pretty far away from the road and we weren't able to see it. We came
back later in the afternoon, but weren't able to find it again.
Overall there weren't as many shorebirds as there were a couple of weeks
ago. It has really dried up in the upper and lower bottoms. There are
still some wet spots along Sutton Road and they're covered up with Great
Egrets. We had well over 200 of them just in the lower bottoms (and at
least another 150 just across the state line in Tennessee). There were
hundreds of Bank Swallows on the power lines along Sutton Road too, but
very few Cliff Swallows compared to 2 weeks ago.
