I was scanning over the southeast fields, a short time ago, looking for Horned
Larks. I’ve often found them there, this summer, moving around with their
distinctive flight (mostly at this time of morning). As I was scanning, a
Shrike flew through my view. I followed it and watched it land in a hackberry
tree, in the fencerow, about 700 yards from the house. I got the best photos
possible at 700 yards…then scanned on, to the left, where I found the second
one on the utility wire. It was making a nearby Indigo Bunting very nervous.
This one was on the same section of wire where I saw the one, several weeks ago.
This is the first evidence that I’ve seen of pairing, of any sort, in several
years. I‘ve decided that’s a good sign.
