No Sandhills spotted at Sinclair as 50 miles west of Flint Ridge at Mammoth
Cave, which is on the flyway of cranes south to central Florida.
We did see one Short-Eared Owl land in a tree right in front of us at 1702 hrs,
this evening. We had being watching a spectacular sunset of many colors and
waiting for Mercury to pop out when the owl flew up and landed. One Harrier
Hawk prior to that. No Bald Eagles tonight. Venus was bright by 1630 but due to
a cloud we never saw Mercury, which we have been looking for since late Nov.,
and suppose to be visible above the horizon since Dec. 3. On the power lines
earlier this afternoon was one red shoulder and two much smaller white chest
hawks.
