July 8, 2004: I visited the South Shore Wildlife Management Area today in Greenup County. An adult bald eagle was present. There are fish in the larger of the 2 wetlands plus lots of young wood ducks to serve as food. The smaller, shallower wetland has receded quite a bit since May providing plenty of shorebird habitat. Killdeer were abundant. I noticed at least one peep but did not try to positively identify it without a spotting scope. It looked like a least sandpiper. Two great egrets were hanging out in the tree row between the 2 wetlands. ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
