Finally remembered to check the NWS radar this morning; so far there is only one roost ring noticeable on the Louisville radar at dawn, that is near the jct. of the Bluegrass Pkwy and I-65 at Elizabethtown. The large roost down south of Wayne/Clinton counties in adjacent Tennessee is also present again this year. These are assumed to be roosts of Purple Martins because of the time of year. They can be seen on NWS web site at: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=lvx&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&; loop=no You have to then click on the Base Radar Loop and they are only in view from about dawn to 8:00 a.m. EDT. You can also move to other adjacent radar sites using the arrows above the loop link. The Paducah site very nicely shows the huge roost down the Mississippi River in Tennessee; I believe from past years this also may involve large wading birds. If anyone identifies the exact location of any of the roosts they see on radar in coming weeks, please let me know. bpb, Frankfort
