I happened to be on the Elliott County end of the Grayson Lake Wildlife Management Area today. The clay soil ridgetops along the cliffline bordering the lake grow some nice white oak forests. At least one red-headed woodpecker was taking advantage of the white oak acorns that still littered the ground under the trees. A big flock of about 60 turkeys was enjoying the acorns as well.
