Both were in a mudflat on the left side of the road soon after entering
Obion WMA in Fulton Co. Same mudflat had 7 bald eagles.

Piping plover seen for 5-10 minutes yesterday a.m. (18 July). After those
few minutes we could not find it again.

Buff-breasted sandpiper put in a similar appearance Sat. morning (17 July).
Last weekend, we thought we might have seen a buff-breasted, but never had a
definitive look.

Unable to obtain usable pictures of either bird.

No other rarities seen. Did not find the Mottled Duck along Hwy 94.

Tallied about 500+ great egrets in Obion. Counted 420 along a distant tree
line along Hickman Rd. Did not see any snowy egrets on the trip, and only 5
or so little blue herons. 1 imm. yellow-crowned night-heron in Obion.

Lake 9 is still very full. Had about 100 great egrets. Great horned owl
seen at Elbow Slough turn.

Nothing noteworthy found at Long Point.

Total of 10-12 Miss. kites in the lower bottoms.

Shorebird numbers were low, and besides the 2 rare species above, included 2
probable short-billed dowitchers, 2 greater yellowlegs, 1 lesser yellowlegs,
5 semi plovers, 15 pectoral sandpipers, 40-60 least sandpipers, and hundreds
of killdeer.

Stopped briefly by Sinclair unit of Peabody WMA yesterday afternoon. 2-3
Miss. kites in the area, along with n. harrier, Henslow?s sparrows along S2
and S5, Bell?s vireos, 2 probable willow flycatchers, orchard orioles, and
several blue grosbeaks.
