All, If anyone would be interested in seeing them, I have a small gallery of shots from a trip I went on with the TN Aquarium the first of August specifically to try for Himalayan Snowcock in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada. We did some incidental birding in both UT around Salt Lake City, and also in northeast NV. Of course the Snowcock was the main target for all, but a good portion of the group get several other lifers as well. Snowcock was my only lifer of the trip, but we also got to spend some quality time with both Lewis's and American Three-toed Woodpeckers, my most wanted and seldom-seen birds of the trip after the Snowcock; walk away looks at Dusky Grouse were nice as well! Overall we had some tough subjects to photograph on this trip, and the quality of many of the images leaves a bit to be desired. But, take what you can get (especially Snowcocks from probably 1/4 mile away). The Snowcock hike wasn't as bad as people tend to think it is, though we did leave out for the almost 2.5 mile well before dawn at 04:00 local time. About 10 switchbacks keep it from being overly steep, but at 10,000 feet or so you still know you are getting some exercise. The Snowcocks were distant, but we still had some great views thru the scopes Kevin and I carried up. If you are curious about doing this, a scope is MANDATORY for any real chance at success. Fantastic destination, and well worth the trip. As always, the original size will produce the best images. Good Birding!!
