After hearing report after report of a record invasion north of us this year, I decided to try for Saw-whets a week earlier than normal last night with Brainard at his farm in Jefferson County. Lo and behold, we caught 2, both young females, beating my personal early date by a remarkable 13 days. Bodes well for this season, which is still 3 weeks from peak.
