Thought I'd pass along an update on our bald eagle nest surveys.  This was our
second year of surveys using our new regional monitoring scheme and the first
time ever that we did aerial surveys in eastern Kentucky! (This region was
previously covered by ground surveys.)  During the last statewide survey
(2019), 19 nests were counted in the eastern Kentucky region by ground, but in
2022, 34 nests were counted by air!  That's a 79% increase!  The boost in
numbers can be explained by a more thorough survey effort, as well as an actual
increase in nest numbers.

Next year, we will survey western KY for the first time since 2019.
