Although my husband and I are following the stay at home order on occasion we
have to get out of the house. Today an errand took us towards the dams so I
decided to do a bit of birding.
KY dam road is closed and gated. You can still drive around the beach and
marina, the lower boat basin is open.
Barkley is still open and we enjoyed a picnic lunch while we watched American
White Pelican, Bonaparte’s gulls and Forster’s terns in breeding plumage.
Osprey are plentiful and eagles were seen at most stops.
At my cabin in Crappie hollow I’ve been enjoying returning migrants including
Swainson’s warbler, Hooded warbler, Prothonotary warblers, Louisiana
waterthrush and all the expected breeders.
At my home in Murray we have baby bluebirds, house finches and nests being
constructed. House wrens are back in numbers and we saw our first Indigo
bunting today.
Stay healthy and enjoy migration.
