We drove Hwy 100, again, yesterday, Franklin to Russellville, and North on Hwy
431.
We observed--Ten Red-tailed Hawks and Seven Kestrels, on the one hour drive.
The Red-tails, especially, were highlited, by the afternoon Sun.
All on power lines adjacent to the hwy.
The majority of the birds were between Franklin and Russellville. This world
class farm land is almost 100% wheat. Voles must be common, but we did not
observe a single vole.
Down in south TN on I-65, the Redbuds were spectacular above the limestone road
cuts.
And, recently, we have been reading the controversy about JJ Audubon. Maybe
the Society should be renamed Wilson? I remember some birders discussing Wilson
20 years ago. And, the Wilson Snipe is a favorite, as we were daily seeing 5 to
9 a month ago at Green Cay Nature Center, southeast Florida.
Preston Forsythe, Browder, KY, where it is still cold, but a warm up, is on
the way !
